Discover began with a child wanting to do something for himself, and a mum looking for a way to help. It turns an everyday need into an opportunity for independence, with natural, demand-free learning along the way.
I was being asked, again and again, to type things into the computer. My child knew what he wanted, but he needed me to put the words in for him.
I wanted to give him a way to take that step himself. With Discover, he could say the word, see its spelling and then type it into the computer on his own. He had more control over what he wanted to do.
Along the way, he was naturally taking in word structures, sounds and spellings. He was learning through something he wanted to do, with no demand to sit down and learn.

The word tool is where Discover began. Spell & Play and Number Play offer further ways to explore, while keeping choice with the child.
The child chooses a word they actually need, says it and sees how it is spelt. They can use that spelling to type it themselves on the computer, with control over what they want to do.
That might look like…Finding the spelling of a word they want to search for, rather than waiting for a parent to type it.
When a child wants to explore further, Spell & Play offers another way to spend time with words and spellings. It is an option to choose, with space to follow an interest and stop when they have had enough.
That might look like…Coming back to a word because it interests them, with no requirement to turn that moment into a lesson.
Discover also makes room for numbers and maths. Number Play carries the same child-led approach into exploring quantities and number relationships, with time to look, listen and make sense of an idea.
That might look like…Exploring how amounts combine, or spending more time with a number that catches their attention.
